Bath Holiday Swim Therapy

Bath Swim Therapy run swimming sessions for youngsters with disabilities and additional needs in fully-accessible, warm water pools. Children are supported by parents or carers within a small group, offering those who face difficulties in accessing swimming a friendly, supportive environment in which to develop their water confidence and swimming skills.

Our instructor Ingrid is a trained social worker from Germany, who has worked with adults with learning disabilities here in the UK since 1998.  She is a fully qualified and active Shiatsu practitioner with training in Water Shiatsu. (Shiatsu is a hands-on therapy that uses the same principles as acupuncture, but without needles.  Water Shiatsu is a one to one water therapy.)

Ingrid loves working in water as she feels it frees the body in an almost magical way.  She has worked with adults with learning disabilities in pools in Bristol, Chippenham and Trowbridge, and has run regular Water Shiatsu sessions at Harry’s Hydro in Frome since 2015.  Before taking over the group in late October 2017, Ingrid helped poolside at our sessions in Frome on several occasions.

Bath Swim Therapy was originally established by Pamela Galloway and a group of local parents as a community initiative.  It is organised by volunteers, parents and carers and relies on fund-raising in order to provide sessions. Sadly, Pamela passed away in April 2017 and we found her skills and experience hard to replace. We are delighted that Ingrid Gorr has been able to take on some of the sessions and are working hard to resume sessions where we can.

Ingrid has an up-to-date DBS certificate permitting her to work with children.  She hopes to begin Halliwick training in the near future.  (Halliwick is the concept of teaching swimming to people with special needs which Pamela Galloway believed in and practised.)  Pamela knew Ingrid through their connection with Harry’s Hydro and Paula Fox at HH put us in touch with her when Pamela became less able to take the sessions back in spring 2017.
